Once you have a website up and running, it’s easy to just leave it to ‘do its thing’. However, we believe that whatever the size of your organisation – from a self-employed person through to a multi-national empire, you need a strategy to ensure that your website continues to meet the needs of your business, and importantly, your customers. Do you have a website strategy?
If the answer is no, or you’re not sure if the strategy that you have is fitting its purpose, we’ve put together 4 questions to ask yourself. These will help you to think through and formulate an effective website strategy for your business:
1. Is your website working well?
The most effective websites are actively looked after with an ongoing plan for tweaks and enhancements. These are captured by everyone who uses the site and fed through to an individual, a team or an external technical partner to plan and prioritise when tweaks and changes will be implemented to keep it working as it should.
If you are a small business, it should be relatively easy for you to capture this information based on your own user experience and by asking existing and potential customers. This could be done via a simple survey and the insights fed through to an external technical partner who manages your website.
2. Are you up to date?
Changes in your business or organisation will require updates to your website. This can be easily forgotten in the busy day-to-day.
This could take the form of new sections being created on the website to present new types of work, projects, products or service offerings. New functionality may also be required to best deliver these new areas – perhaps even an evolution in tech, such as a mobile app to best serve this new area.
3. Needing a refresh?
If you’ve had your website for 5 years or more, you are highly likely to benefit from a refresh. If the site itself is working well in terms of the user experience through navigation and functionality, then it could be that a design refresh would be the perfect solution.
This is a usually straight forward and can be done in stages to make it really manageable. New content, photography, videos and design can all be integrated into an existing website, making it feel fresh.
This is something we are undertaking for many clients and is a brilliant way to extend the life of your website.
4. Are you secure?
As web technology experts, we are very focused on ensuring that all the websites we develop and host are kept secure through regular and timely updates, bug fixes, through secure server management and more.
We also give our clients advice on how to keep things secure from their perspective from using resilient passwords, ensuring access levels are up to date, software updates are done for remote workers and much more.
Is security part of your website strategy?
