A year of exciting technical challenges… now it’s time for Christmas!

As we approach the end of 2017 and begin planning festive fun, we wanted to take a moment to reflect back on a year of very exciting technical challenges for Olamalu.

This year has seen us take on a great variety of projects across an array of different businesses. As technology becomes more advanced - for us as technical experts – it brings exciting opportunities to help organisations to solve challenges through technology. It’s incredible how technology now plays such a vital part in the success of an organisation.

It was a tough choice, but here we give a selection of some of our favourites from 2017!

Building the intranet for the Dunn School of Pathology was a really great brief for us. This was a follow on project after we’d built the main website, and it was nice to get stuck in and extend the success of the external site to a useful internal information tool.

The intranet had some special features including a single sign-on integration for Drupal 8, information sharing between different groups and bespoke easy to use booking functionality for the scientific facilities and parking.

Headington is an independent school for girls located in Oxford. This year, we built them a bespoke app, in both iOS and Android, which provided us with a great learning experience and opportunity to expand our skills.

The purpose of the apps was to facilitate important information sharing such as an overview of activities and latest news. The app is available for parents, pupils and staff to load onto their personal device and enables them all to stay in touch with what is happening at Headington. The end result was a very useful information tool for a range of audiences.

Young Lives is an international study of childhood poverty following the lives of 12,000 children in Ethiopia, India, Peru and Vietnam over 15 years.

Its aim is to shed light on the drivers and impacts of child poverty and generate evidence to help policymakers design programmes that make a real difference to poor children and their families

This is a project with big horizons. This year, we worked on syndicating content to country specific sites. This enabled a better flow of information, really helping Young Lives to maximise the power of their website.

Ellis Wines are an independent, family-owned wine business which was established in 1822. We worked with design agency The Frank Agency to develop a sophisticated website which integrated into the Ellis wine inventory management system. This enables a customer to easily search through and filter hundreds of different wines. To enhance the customer experience, wine data is turned into a downloadable pdf, making choosing wine a straightforward experience.

Oxford Locums is a hub of locum GP’s in the Oxford area. We were asked to develop a website which allowed Doctors to create their own profile, view available positions and stay updated with news and events with custom communication preferences. This is a powerful information tool which really fuels this community service.

Argos Froyanes is an organisation who are experts in promoting sustainable harvesting of Antarctic and Patagonian Toothfish- also known as Chilean Sea Bass.

This was an exciting project for us, working on sustaining the world’s natural resources and turning the Argos Froyanes website into an easy to navigate information and news portal. We worked with designers The Frank Agency to develop a website which met both the technical and design challenges and the end result is a stylish, informative and easy to navigate site.

We hope that you too have had an exciting year. We would like to thank you for all of the opportunities you’ve given us to work on some exciting challenges.

Wishing all of our customers a very happy Christmas and a healthy and successful New Year.

From all the team at Olamalu
